Gambling is entertainment that costs money. It is not income and it is not a way out of a shortfall, and treating it as either is where harm starts.
Signs worth acting on. Betting more than you planned. Chasing losses with a bigger stake. Borrowing to play, or playing with money meant for something else. Hiding how much you play from people close to you. Feeling you need to gamble to feel normal. Any one of those is enough.
Tools every casino here must provide. Deposit limits, loss limits, session reminders, cool-off periods and self-exclusion. On newer operators these are often buried several levels into account settings and occasionally need a support ticket to apply. Set them when you open the account, not later.
Where to get help in Canada. ConnexOntario is free, confidential and available 24/7 on 1-866-531-2600. Outside Ontario every province funds a problem-gambling service — Alberta 1-866-332-2322, British Columbia 1-888-795-6111, Nova Scotia 1-888-347-8888, Quebec 1-800-461-0140. The Responsible Gambling Council maintains national listings and support for families.
Self-exclusion works. Provincial programmes cover regulated venues and sites; operator-level self-exclusion covers that operator. Using both is reasonable if you need it. Nobody will make it difficult, and asking is not something to be embarrassed about.
